'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark'
‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' is an innovative recycling program that provides Australians with a free and easy way to recycle their used printer cartridges. As a sponsor of National Recycling Week, the program has itself achieved impressive recycling results with over 10 million printer cartridges successfully diverted from landfill and recycled.
Using patented Australian technology, the 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program ensures zero-waste to landfill. A large proportion of the cartridges are returned to the original manufacturer for their own component recovery programs. The remaining cartridge waste components are recycled, with some of the plastic being used to produce eWood™ - a timber replacement product used to make items such as outdoor furniture, fencing and garden edging.
eWood™ is a world first initiative pioneered by ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' recycling partner Close the Loop®. eWood™ looks and feels similar to natural hardwood but is more versatile and longer lasting. Unlike its natural counterpart, eWood™ is UV resistant, non-porous and resilient to bacterial growth and insect attacks.
Used printer cartridges of any type or brand can be dropped into a ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' collection box at participating Australia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy or Dick Smith Electronics and PowerHouse stores.
