The Big Aussie Swap Party

Who doesn't like getting new stuff? But increasingly we, as individuals and as a community, are becoming aware of the environmental and financial impact of our throw-away culture.
National Recycling Week 2009 is aiming to help everyone get new stuff ... without it costing the earth. Find an Event near you.
How does a Swap Party work?
Check out our 'Swap Party Guide' video below, featuring Melissa Doyle, co-host of Sunrise on Seven and Big Aussie Swap ambassador. At a Swap Party you bring along good quality items you no longer want. Exchange each for a token. Then exchange the token for items brought by others.
It's fun, free and has a strong, positive environmental benefit. By diverting items from landfill, and avoiding buying something new, you save water, resources and reduce emissions. Find an Event near you.
The Big Aussie Swap
For NRW09, there will be scores of Swap Parties around the country, hosted by councils, schools, workplaces and individuals like you as part of the Big Aussie Swap. Major CBDs including Sydney, Darwin, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Wollongong and Coffs Harbour are holding simultaneous Swap Parties starting 12:30 pm on Tuesday 10th November. Throughout the week, communities from Mackay to Mount Gambier, Hobart to Wiluna will hold swaps in their towns. Find an Event near you.
